I work with the Sea Turtle program as a Coordinator, for the Island of Ocean Isle Beach. I have had many yrs experience with the turtle program and have a permit to relocate and excavate nests when needed. I also do necropsy’s, which is an autopsy to determine what the cause of death is.. I really love teaching, especially the young children, about our program. I most enjoy seeing many children come back to our Island later in their life and tell me what they are doing with their lives, it is often due to what they learned here....That is what this program is all about (TEACHING)

| Deb & Jim Boyce |
We became involved with the Turtle Program in 1998 as Nest Parents. Since then we have been very active in the program. Jim is one of the morning beach riders and we both assist in the location and re-location of nests, necropsies and assisting/transporting stranded turtles. We are also the Nest Parent Coordinators, which means we train, along with the Island Coordinator, new volunteers to be Nest Parents |

| Judy Simmons |
Judy moved to NC from a farm in northern Maine. she joined the Turtle Patrol in 1994. She volunteered to take a nest without knowing what to expect. She visited each nest due to hatch before hers and the first time she saw a hatching, she WAS HOOKED! There is just something about those little creatures that really captivate you. She has been trying to protect them ever since.

| Nancy Parker |
Born in NC, graduated from NC Wesleyan College with a B.S. degree in Mathematics. I stumbled onto the turtle patrol in 1894 and hung around and helped whenever I could since then. I retired full time to Ocean Isle Beach in 2000... I love being awakened to the sounds of "Looks like a nest at...." or "there's a turtle on the beach at..." |

| Judy & Robert Horne |
Judy & Robert came from the Charlotte, NC area and built a house in 1984. They moved here permanently in 1993. Judy joined the Turtle Patrol in 1994 and was an active walker and nest parent. Robert was drafted a couple of years later and has contributed in all aspects including renting us his ATV for patrols.

| Ron Donley |
Ron moved from MD to Sunset Beach with wife, June, in 2002. The Chinns' were friends from MD. They convinced me that I should become a nest parent. It was a wonderful experience to witness and help with my first hatching in early August. In 2003, along with continuing to be a nest parent, I volunteered to join the turtle patrol and I have enjoyed every minute of patrolling the beach in the early mornings looking for nests.

| Don & Carol Kauffman |
They were thrilled to find a turtle nest in front of their home at Ocean Isle Beach. They have been sea turtle lovers ever since. Don rides the beach every morning looking for turtle tracks. If he finds tracks, Carol is on a team that locates and if necessary, relocates the nest. They are also nest parents, and sit until the hatchlings decide its time then they help guide them to the ocean |

| Bill Breeding |
After traveling extensively, Bill came back to the area from Calif. in 1984. He met Gloria in 1992 and was drafted into the Turtle Program. First as a walker, looking for turtle tracks and eventually as a rider. Bill has been invaluable for building nesting materials and hauling supplies in his truck. He has served as a nest parent and generally a Jack-of-all trade to the program. |

| Marcy & Gary Coleman |
Marcy and Gary Coleman moved to Ocean Isle Beach from Charlotte, NC in February 2001. After signing on as a Museum volunteer Marcy learned about the Turtle Patrol. They were invited to sign up as nest parents and were trained at their lst nest in August 2001. In February 2003 Gary attended a training session on performing turtle necropsies (animal autopsies). Having a Masters degree in anthropology, Gary is well acquainted with bone and organ identification. He is a "natural" for this kind of work and is now the "on-call" person when dead turtles wash up on the beach. His job is to try and determine the cause of death of these turtles and to report his findings to the N.C. Wildife Resources Commission. |

| Sue Sapp |
Sue was introduced to the turtle program after moving to OIB. Her sister Judy Horne and husband were already active in the program. Like the rest of us, once you watch a nest hatch or a momma come up on the beach to lay her eggs, you are hooked for life. |
